Can They Survive? Aston Villa

February 12, 2015 2 min read

A spell of 11 hours without a goal was broken with James Okore's goal in the recent defeat to Chelsea. Currently sitting 18th with 22 points from 25 games, Aston Villa have a tough road ahead of them to avoid the drop.  With only 13 games left to play, the Villains will need to pick up the points in bunches to stay in the Barclay's Premier League.  Villa recently parted ways with 3rd year manager Paul Lambert, and will be looking to replace him in the next few days.

FACT:  Villa's misfiring attack will again find the net.  Christian Benteke's absence and failure to find form has left Villa's attack without it's focal point.  Benteke bagged 19 goals in his debut season for Villa, but has found the injury bug hard to shake off.
FACT:  Villa have a relatively solid defense.  Only having conceded 34 goals, there are 7 other teams that have let in more.  James Okore has began to flourish with his increased roll.  Ron Vlaar returning to the fold provides some much needed experience and leadership.
FACT: There will be many "6 pointers" in the final run-in for the Villains.  With matches against fellow relegation threatened squads: QPR, Leicester, West Brom, Burnley, and Sunderland.
FICTION:Gabriel Agbonlahor's new sponsorship with Pukka Pies has seen the forward add 2 stone in the 2014/15 season.

VERDICT: The added flair of Scott Sinclair and Carles Gil will be key in Villa unlocking defenses in this final run of games.  Aston Villa have plenty of Premiership talent, and their choice in new manager will be crucial in the relegation scrap.  Personally, I believe Villa will avoid the drop.  Their defense has been there, the 11 hour goalless egg has finally been cracked.  The goals will come as well as the points.  LONG LIVE ALAN HUTTON!!!!!
