This weekend had the sendoff game of the United States for the 2015 World Cup in Canada. The United States played a team that will be in the World Cup, Korea Republic. Korea Republic will be playing powerhouse Brazil, Spain and Costa Rica in their group stage. After the way Korea Republic played against the United States most people would say they have a chance to go far in the World Cup or at least make it out of their group. Seeing how Korea Republic played the first half without giving up a foul was very impressive. Usually there is at least one foul by half time for each team. The first half was very good for Korea Republic. They were able to keep their shape and absorb all the pressure that the United States threw at them. Jung-mi Kim came up big, saving a sure goal from Sydney Leroux. It didn’t seem like the United States could do anymore to pressure the defense of Korea Republic which is good for a team that is looking to compete for the championship. The youth teams have done well for Korea Republic. Will this be the year that Korea Republic comes out and shows that they can play with the best and win?
The United States had some nerves in this game. They were without two of their normal starters in Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe because of injury. Rapinoe was precautionary so she is healthy going into the first game of the World Cup against Australia. Everyone is hoping that Alex Morgan can come back for that first game and provide a much needed dynamic to the attack that was lacking against Korea Republic. With the first 15 minutes of the game, it seemed like the United States couldn’t get anything going against Korea Republic. There passing was lackluster against a team that wasn’t as physical against them. There were flashes of brilliance against Korea Republic but not enough to get them the championship.
